ACT Membership categories
Membership is open to individuals and institutions/organizations
committed and active in development and promotion of new
new/empirical knowledge and information in identifying and
supporting application of practical solutions to eliminate
hunger and food insecurity and alleviate poverty through enhance
and widespread adaptation and adoption of conservation
agriculture in Africa.
Membership categories is in the following categories:
Individual membership:
open to individuals involved in the promotion/application of
conservation agriculture in Africa. Individual membership is
currently free. However, it is expected that members contribute
to the network by providing information and participating in
various ACT activities.
Institutional membership:
Governmental and non-governmental organisations as well as
private sector organisations may apply for institutional
membership. An annual membership fee is charged. Additional
voluntary contributions to the running of the network are
appreciated.
Associate membership:
Individuals interested in conservation farming/tillage but not
for the moment engaged in Africa may apply for associate
membership.
Applications for membership:
One can apply for membership by writing to ACT SECRETARIAT (see
address below) or on-line using a prescribed application form
available on the ACT Website.
Membership benefits and obligations:
Benefits to members include: ACT avails members’ access to
various information and data on conservation agriculture in
Africa, ACT provides members fora to share experience and
interact with peers on issues of conservation agriculture and
Sustainable Land Management. ACT facilitates contacts with
specialists who can provide technical CA/SLM advice
Members will be expected to: provide information on activities
and programmes on CT in their areas/countries for Network’s
databases share experiences on conservation tillage, e.g. by
contributing articles to the ACT Newsletter, participate in the
ACT work groups and other CT development and promotion
activities
ACT’s justification and
rationalization lays in its ability to ADD VALUE in and to its
MEMBERS capabilities and efforts to attain their set objectives.
Therefore, an appreciation of ACT starts with the understanding
of who its members are and what is the main thrust and subject
matter of interest among its members.
Membership to ACT is voluntary done through sending an
application form to the Network secretariat. This is also
possible through the website. ACT uses various communication
means including physical, fax, phone and hard copy materials.
This is to ensure that membership is more that just those with
access to internet/email. This is particularly targeting
frontline staff and farmers.
ACT has a membership of just over 1000 formally registered
spread in over 30 countries in Africa. There are also hundreds
other collaborating and participating in ACT, but with no formal
registration. The Network has a close to 2000 mailing list.
